Exhibitions

Unfortunately John Miller Galleries has been forced to close down.

So Braddon is looking for a new gallery to exhibit with.

UnClassified attemps to be unclassifiable

By its nature UnClassified questions the categorizing of the mediums of artmaking by proposing a work that is sculpture and video and painting and installation.

The act of removing the (massive) canvas from the wall and wedging it into the centre of the gallery space transforms it into an object – a form in space – a sculpture – a sculpture that also acts as a projection screen.

The work then adopts the medium of video to then adopt the medium of painting in order to paint with subtly moving images, employing light, colour, form and composition on the canvas.

Another, parallel aspect of this work is the contemporary concept of slowing, whereby time, therefore the viewer, is deliberately and considerably slowed down, as evidenced in the content of the video projection. This quiet slowing encourages the viewer to slow down, breathe and contemplate the mundane and beautiful ordinariness that is just outside the gallery window.

The blurred, soft focus allows the viewer to see the scene in an holistic sense, without the distraction of specific and focused detail, thus the once overly familiar scene is freed from its over-familiarity, rendered as a moving image / composition of form, space and colour that paradoxically heightens the viewers’ awareness of the scene / experience……..time / place.
